I am sitting here gazing
into a crystal ball which was willed to me by
Gypsy, a Russian psychic I met in Puerto
Rico. I was trying to ascertain what
2005 would bring for me, but try as hard as I
could there were no flashing images of winning
lottery numbers or making the bestseller list.
Sometimes I know who is calling before I pick
up the phone, so that must make me a little
"psychic," but caller ID spoiled all
this fun.
We all enter this world
with a certain amount of information that is
beyond ourselves, and our gut reaction to a
situation may go back to our fight or flight
genetic instinctual survival mechanism. I
always get gut feelings of something terribly
wrong when I know I should not have done
something and perform anyway contrary to my
"female intuition," like
having too much chocolate cake then when I
weigh myself and find that I have gained those
extra pounds, I know I should have listened to
my instincts.
Other times I have dreams
about a place I have never visited before, and
when I finally arrive there it is exactly as
in my dream. Sometimes when I team up
with a new business associate I feel
immediately comfortable and do not have to
fear about mistrusting him/her because we just
simply hit it off. I like to tell people
that I have "mental telepathy" especially
when I am playing Poker because it really
throws them off, giving me the advantage
needed to win.
Whether called
telepathy, ESP, clairsentience, psychometry,
channeling, remote viewing, precognition,
psycokinesis, or paranormal, it is all
"nonsense" to my husband's
structured engineering logic. Except,
when talking about Eastern Airlines Flight 401
which crashed in the Everglades, and crew
members on other airplanes which had received
salvaged parts of that particular airplane,
were reporting sightings of ghosts of the
dead crew members of Flight 401. Then my
husband's own "superstitions" came
to life. So how can a man be
superstitious about airplanes and not about
other things, such as my crystal ball?
Most people will not
talk about their psychic experiences for fear
of being labeled "certifiable."
If my attorney started talking about paranormal
activities, it would be grounds to reduce his exorbitant
hourly fees. If a psychiatrist talked
about "metoscopy" (a form of fortune telling
based on analyzing lines on the forehead)
I would ask him to lie
down of his couch while I took notes for my
next book. If a pilot reported over the
PA system that he just saw a ghost of another
pilot peering in his window, I'd get off that
flight; even if it were up in the wild blue
yonder. And if my physician talked about his
"oracle" coming from a divine
source, I'd have his license verified.
Yet even skeptics will
admit to having "hunches." Are
you superstitious about walking under a
ladder? Have you ever had a
gut-wrenching feeling that you should not have
signed that contract, and ran down the street
yelling after that person that you had
changed your mind because your stomach told you
so?
Trust your
"intuition." I am sure you
have heard that many times. You are in control
of your own destiny. Scientists are
discovering that certain biochemical
sensations are brought on by hormonal
overloads of body chemicals, which we
interpret as "ESP." Conscious
and willful directing of your own thoughts are
nothing more than positive thinking. I
can - therefore I will. Wasn't it
President Clinton who admitted that his affair
with Monica came about because : "I
did it because I could."
Do some ideas pop into
your head from absolutely nowhere?
Novelist, Morgan Robertson, predicted the
sinking of The Titanic. Albert Einstein,
is reputed to have formulated the Theory of
Relativity while resting. Some of my
best thoughts for writing come to me while I
am in bed watching a boring TV program, so I
keep paper and pencil nearby because once
the phone interrupts those dynamic thoughts,
they are impossible to recall.
Just as musical
virtuosity and athletic fitness runs in
families, psychic talent also seems to have a
genetic component and I had a very superstitious
Scottish grandmother. You can develop
your psychic power. Needless to say, I
am fascinated by the subject and study it
carefully, but at times I have scared myself
with those "powers." Once I
had an out-of-body experience, and another
time I was able to move a photograph on my
wall by staring at it intensely for ten
minutes.
Still a skeptic?
Open your Bible to Proverbs 3:16, "Length
of days is in her right hand; and in her left
riches and honor." Learn to trust
your own instincts, and you will probably be
right.
